Description One of the most recognized street names in America became a landmark project for Shirley Contracting Company LLC. Began in 1984, on one of the most traveled and congested avenues in Washington D.C., the reconstruction of Pennsylvania Avenue presented many challenges. Managing the daily (and nightly) traffic volumes, a myriad of underground utilities, preserving architecturally or historic features, and the time allotted for construction just to mention a few. Shirley forces have always risen to challenges in construction and this urban reconstruction was no less a challenge than many others. Comprising the complete reconstruction of Pennsylvania Avenue between 3rd Street through 6th Street in N.W. Washington D.C. Shirley forces reconstructed all aspects of the roadway, drainage, traffic control, and pedestrian features while maintaining the traffic flows in a highly visible and prestigious location.
