Shirley forces, in an
effort to enhance the physical security of the
complex, constructed a remote fueling depot to
store and provide fueling capacity for use in
case of national emergency or disaster. The facility
which was constructed away from the main complex
provides for the delivery of diesel fuel and storage
(over 250,000 gallons), as well as distribution
capability to protect the operational infrastructure
of the complex. The projects includes six main
underground tanks, off loading facilities from
tankers, as well as an extensive underground distribution
network providing service to various areas of
the complex.
The work also provides hardened structural protection
and advanced emergency systems coupled with a
significant monitoring capability of the facility
for operational ability in times of heightened
security or emergency. The project was completed
in the spring of 2004
