| Description |
This $14.6 million dollar
structure was completed in 1994 and is one of
the few "Delta Leg" structures in the region,
especially when considering the size of this bridge.
With foundations on each side of the Occoquan
Reservoir and a steel leg founded in concrete
the structure spans nearly 500 feet over the entire
width of the waterway. The project was constructed
from both land and from marine barges with large
cranes floating in the waterway to provide the
required proximity for the heavy lifts involved
in erecting the structure. Great care for the
environment for the entire operation was dictated
since this is the water source for a large portion
of the region. This blended often opposite ends
of the construction world with the requirements
to protect the waterway and the required methods
for heavy bridge & marine construction. |
