| Description |
This project, completed
in 1999, was Shirley Contracting Company's entrance
into the Richmond Market. The $20 million dollar
project included the widening of 4.4 miles of
the existing parkway and the reconstruction of
10 bridges, 120,000 square feet of soundwall,
18,000 feet of storm pipe, 10,000 square feet
of MSE retaining wall, with only 50,000 cubic
yards of excavation. Chippenham Parkway, as it
existed, was a wide grass median with ditch drainage
which separated dual traffic lanes. The new construction
added two traffic lanes to the inside, constructed
a complete piped storm drainage system, concrete
barrier median separation, and improved access
and egress at the interchanges. Chosen by the
Richmond District of the Virginia Department of
Transportation (VDOT) to be a "partnering project"
due to the level of commitment of VDOT and the
Chesterfield County community to fast track the
project the goal was described as " to build a
superior road in a timel manner with a minimum
of inconvenience and cost to the public". Shirley
finished the project ahead of schedule and on
budget and won several awards associated with
the construction of this project. |
